Elenagt19 > Goss and Lydia off lead.
Elenagt19 > Gossamer gets a ground escort on his first visit to the arena. Julia and Lydia show him trust by giving him a lot of slack in the lead line and reins respectively. Gossamer responds by being a perfect gentleman. Notice his natural tendency to walk in near collection. There is no pressure on him to flex at the poll and hold his head up and vertical. He just does it. His right rear foot is reaching well under his center of gravity and his back is up. He is relaxed, concentrating, and watching the ground in front of him. The rider's and handler's comportment is deceptively critical to the horse's own attitude here. Both are relaxed, smiling, and applying an extremely light touch. They also have their heads tilted down and are focused on the ground being covered, a calming and nonthreatening human posture to a horse. And most importantly they are exhibiting absolutely no tense or aggressive body language. Bear in mind that Julia is not being glimpsed by Gossamer out of the corner of his eye. She is the dominant figure in his huge horsey panoramic view of all things on the left side of his body. There is a lot going on here but highly experienced and skilled people make it look like nothing much is happening. I wish I had a photo of the overconfident " cowboy" who, lacking all these skills, got a dry land waterskiing lesson from Gossamer when he simply tried to lead him from barn to pasture.
