Elenagt19 > This is another horse on the farm. Interestingly the "red eye" artifact captures the shape of this prey animal's pupil. It is a horizontal opening rather than a round one like ours. It gives the horse a panoramic surveillance view of its world. It is best suited for detecting movement at a distance. The almost reflex reaction to such a sighting is "run away, run away!"
Elenagt19 > The farm's alarm clock keeps an eye on the hour.
Elenagt19 > There are more than horses afoot on this farm!
Elenagt19 > She holds her reins correctly in dressage fashion.
Elenagt19 > Valeria has never sat so straight as when she sits on a horse. Her level of concentration and confidence seem to gel when she is riding.
Elenagt19 > Valeria's lower leg is held rigid by the braces she wears underneath her jeans.
Elenagt19 > In the evening Valeria rides Regia, a black and white paint. A peek at ears and mouths show that Valeria's talking and Regia is listening!
Elenagt19 > The Step Transition Program Valeria was enrolled in at the Kennedy Krieger Institute didn't work out; more for logistical reasons than anything else. The drive down I-83 to Baltimore timed to 45 min on a Sunday turned out to be a consistent 2 hour traffic jam each weekday. Valeria was spending 4 hours a day couped up in the back of our honda civic. The excellent Fawn Area Elementary School that Valeria normally attends put together a package that included some therapy but could not manage the intensive daily therapy she needs to avoid further surgery. We have been told by doctors that if she doesn't walk in the next two years she will never be able to do so. So with the help of good friends and going even deeper into debt than we were before we have returned to Euromed in Mielno. Knowing the psychological and therapeutic benefit Valeria derives from riding I managed to find a horse farm within a 40 minute walk from the small room we are renting while she undergoes therapy at Euromed. She is wearing braces (AFO's) under her jeans and her shoes have already been modified for the Adeli suit. Photo taken 1 Oct 2006 in Poland. Her growth in height since the riding photos in April (wearing pink) is phenomenal.
